The search for knowledge on how to live longer and healthier lives is increasing. After all, feeling good, happy and fulfilled is the eternal quest for many people. In order to achieve this goal, changes in habits are fundamental. Among the main ones are: eating well and correctly, staying hydrated, sleeping well, consuming supplements and vitamins, doing physical activity, among others. Knowing this concern, Algicel has developed Azora Astaxanthin, a formula with natural astaxanthin, obtained from the microalga Haematococcus Pluvialis, which brings numerous benefits to our bodies.
With a high degree of purity, its daily consumption is capable of strengthening the immune system against external agents, acting as an anti-inflammatory, preserving skin health, providing greater resistance to ultraviolet radiation, aiding eye health, controlling glycaemic levels, protecting cardiovascular health, reducing fatigue, improving exercise performance, favouring brain and cognitive health, protecting the body against oxidative stress and promoting joint health, among many others.
Azora Astaxanthin is produced in the Azores, Portugal, more precisely at the Algicel production plant.
Microalgae cultivation in the Azores
The first use of microalgae by humans dates back 2,000 years. It was the Chinese, who used Nostoc to survive during a period of famine. However, microalgae biotechnology only began to develop in the middle of the last century.
The Algicel - Biotechnology and ResearchLda, a company founded in 2007 on São Miguel Island in the Azores, has established a consortium with the University of the Azores to develop an R&D project in microalgae cultivation. A pilot plant was built on an industrial scale to cultivate microalgae in closed photobioreactors. After three years of trials, the desired results were achieved. The process and equipment have been patented.
The aim of the company's founders is to provide happier lives and with Azora Astaxanthin, they are achieving this.
Algicel also has an interpretation centre, which is an information space dedicated to microalgae. It is accessible to anyone who wants to visit. As well as finding out a wide range of information about microalgae, visitors can also carry out a laboratory experiment and visit the technological process developed by the company for cultivating the Haematococcus Pluvialis microalgae.
What is astaxanthin?
Natural, pure, safe and reliable astaxanthin - nature's most powerful antioxidant - is unique because it is produced by native microalgae (Haematococcus pluvialis) selected from the natural waters of the Azorean lagoons. The Azores, with their ideal climate and unpolluted environment, provide the best conditions for their development.
Of non-GMO plant origin, astaxanthin is a carotenoid pigment with a wide range of applications in the food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. As a powerful antioxidant, astaxanthin has multiple functions and benefits. Its remarkable ability to combat oxidative stress and its natural anti-inflammatory activity make it a supplement capable of improving general health.
